Program Overview:

Join Blue Hill Bach as we celebrate Bach's birthday and Early Music Month with an intimate chamber baroque concert. We're thrilled to welcome violinist Anna Pearlman and members of her ensemble North Star Baroque from Portland, Maine for an evening of elegant trio sonatas and chamber works by the masters of the baroque era.

Meet the Ensemble

Anna Pearlman

Anna Pearlman is the founder and Music Director of North Star Baroque. Raised in the greater Boston area, she was immersed in Baroque music from an early age.  She later participated in Harvard University’s Baroque Orchestra and the Oberlin Baroque Performance Institute. Her teachers include Janet Packer, Ronald Lantz of the Portland String Quartet, Robert Lehmann, Sarah Darling, and her father, Martin Pearlman, of Boston Baroque.

Anna performs throughout New England on both modern and Baroque violin, as well as on modern viola. She resides in Gorham, Maine.

Michael Albert

Michael Albert has served as an applied music associate at Colby college since 2007 teaching Oboe, Violin, Voice, and Mandolin. As an Oboist he performs in a variety of genres including Celtic, Baroque, and Jazz. He performs with the Kauai Symphony as principal oboe and has served as English Hornist with the Portland and Bangor Symphonies. Michael plays Baroque Violin, Baroque Oboe, Baroque Flute, and Recorders with Baroque Underground and Pacific Masterworks in Seattle, WA, and North Star Baroque and Aurora Camerata in Portland, ME as well as with other various ensembles in the Boston area. Michael also plays Fiddle, Whistles, and Irish Flute with the Beggar Boys, and Jazz Oboe with Initial Ascent. He also subs as a Violist with various orchestras in his spare time. Michael regularly performs and composes music for the Celtic Eventide Service at St. Alban’s Episcopal Church in Cape Elizabeth, ME. 

Christina Edelen

Hailed as a “superb harpsichordist” by the Kansas City Star, Christina Scott Edelen brings a depth of experience, knowledge, and virtuosity to keyboard performance and teaching on organ, harpsichord, and fortepiano. Christina has performed in Europe and the US as soloist and chamber musician in numerous ensembles, festivals and concert halls, including In Stil Moderno, the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, Bachkoor Holland, and the Early Music Festivals of Bloomington, Berkeley, and Boston. She studied at Indiana University’s Early Music Institute and the Royal Conservatory in The Hague and was a finalist at the Bodky International Competition.  Christina holds a Ph.D. in 17th Century English musical philosophy, and is a popular teacher and lecturer at universities, festivals and conferences. For many years serving as Director of Music at the Anglican Church in The Hague (Netherlands), Christina is currently Dir.  of Music at St Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church in Yarmouth, Maine.

Fred Edelen

Fred Edelen performs throughout the US and Europe on both modern and Baroque cello as orchestral cellist, chamber musician, and recitalist. From 2003-2022 he was Assistant Solo Cellist of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, and was formerly cellist with the Houston Symphony and Principal Cellist of the San Antonio Symphony.  Described as a “masterful soloist” with “astonishingly expressive style and gorgeous tone,” he has appeared as soloist with the Phoenix Symphony, the San Antonio Symphony, and the Concertgebouw Chamber Orchestra, and was a prize winner at the National Society of Arts and Letters Cello Competition. An avid performer on Baroque cello, Fred studied at the Early Music Institute at Indiana University and continued his Baroque studies as a Fulbright scholar in The Hague.  He has given masterclasses in London, Lucerne, Houston, and Amsterdam. He currently lives in Bath,  Maine, and enjoys viniculture and the outdoors in addition to music-making.

Nicole Rabata

Flautist Nicole Rabata has appeared with critical acclaim at international festivals and concert halls throughout the United States, Europe and Asia. Highlights include appearances at Interharmony International Music Festivals in Acqui-Terme and Arcidosso, Italy and Sulzbach-Rozenberg, Germany; International Flute Festival of Lund, Sweden; Magic Flute Festival in Stockholm; White Mountain Bach Festival; Portland Bach Experience; Acadia Festival of Traditional Music and Arts; Festival Interceltique du L’Orient in France; Hebridean Celtic Festival in Scotland; International World of Music and Dance Festival in the UK; chamber music performances in Kalimpong, India, and Portland Chamber Music Festival. She has been featured on National Public Radio, BBC Glasgow and French national television. Mrs. Rabata has performed and presented lectures by invitation at the National Flute Conventions in San Diego, New York City and Phoenix, where she performed at the closing gala concert in 2023. Having a particular passion for early music, Mrs. Rabata performs on a Wenner Baroque flute after Palanca. As a Baroque flautist, she appears with St. Mary’s Schola and North Star Baroque.

On the faculty at Colby College, Mrs. Rabata holds a Masters Degree and International Artist’s Diploma in Performance from Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, England.
