Mission & Vision

Music from the past, made present.

The mission of Blue Hill Bach is to present historically informed performances, recordings, and educational programs that explore Baroque music, as well as repertoire that demonstrates the place of Baroque music within the span of music history.

Founded in 2011, Blue Hill Bach brings Baroque music for voice and period instruments to coastal Downeast Maine. Drawing on the region’s rich musical talent—including college and high school students—and collaborating with visiting artists who specialize in early music, the organization presents performances of extraordinary repertoire, approached with historical care and imagination.

Founded as a single summer concert in 2011, Blue Hill Bach now offers year-round programming and educational outreach. Young musicians are central to our work. Through the Young Artist Choral Fellowship, we support four emerging choral singers who are currently studying music, providing professional performance experience alongside established artists in historically informed Baroque repertoire.

Community involvement is at the heart of Blue Hill Bach. We are deeply grateful to the community that supports our work and continues to find beauty, relevance, and meaning in this music and its history.
